GOVERNMENT HIGH SCHOOL LIMBE A SPEECH PRESENTED BY MRS. EYERE TAKOR, PRINCIPAL OF G.H.S. LIMBE, ON THE OCCASION OF THE GRADUATION AND PRIZE AWARD CEREMONY IN G.H.S. LIMBE TODAY FRIDAY MAY 30TH 2008. The Provincial Delegate for Secondary Education, South West The Senior Divisional Officer Fako The Divisional Delegate for Secondary Education, South West The Divisional Officer Limbe Sub Division The Lord Mayors Limbe I and II The Chairman G.H.S. School Management Board The P.T.A. President My dear Colleagues My dear Students Ladies and Gentlemen. I am once again extremely delighted to welcome you all on behalf of the entire G.H.S. Limbe community to our annual rendez vous of graduation and prize award to deserving students. Your presence here comforts me and is an indication that you are concerned about these young men and women who have come to the end of their courses at different levels. Graduation ceremonies at Secondary School level actually only mark an end or the completion of studies at Ordinary or Advanced Level. On the other hand, Prize award ceremonies are organized to reward and promote academic excellence. This joint ceremony is therefore intended to honour those who have met these criteria as well as to encourage other students, who do find themselves in these two groups, to work harder and be recognized. This year over seventy students were not allowed to be part of this prestigious ceremony of graduation because they did not meet the academic requirements and so could not be honoured by our school. Let me warn up coming students that this will be their fate should they choose not to do assignments, do other tasks or write the Mock GCE Exams. The staff will find other ways to mete out corrective justifiable punishment to students who try to circumvent the teaching learning process here in G.H.S. – "The School of Reference". Our results last school year were very good. 70% at Advanced Level and 68.2% at the ordinary level. We expect these results to be better, eventhough what I saw and experienced these last few weeks shows that this goal may not be achieved. The students have consistently boycotted classes, refused to do assignments and some will not even write programmed tests. Students come to school when they want, go home when they want, do not own text books, are rude, tell lies and in some of these vices are backed up by some parents. Some of our students lack motivation and generally display lazy tendencies. When they realize too late that they have wasted a lot of time, they mobilize unorthodox strategies to help them pass G.C.E. Le me remind all of you graduating students that only serious and systematic studies enable you to pass your exams or change an E grade to a B or A grade. In the course of the year, the staff made great effort to ensure that the students completed their work in all classes. It is for this reason that some hard working students will be honoured today with academic prizes. My congratulations go to the parents and students who make great efforts to conform to the standards we have set for our school. They certainly will be rewarded for working hard. Mr. Provincial Delegate, Ladies and Gentlemen, I will like to use this golden opportunity of the graduation ceremony to express the sincere and deep thanks of our school community to the P.T.A. for the help and support that it continuously gives us. We do not forget that it is through your help that we have teachers where we are extremely short. It is thanks to the P.T.A. that we have a computer laboratory with high speed internet connection. With the computer laboratory students and staff can research and are hooked to the international supper highway. The P.T.A. also pays for Discipline Masters, Secretaries, guards as well as help with maintenance of our buildings and equipment. The P.T.A. is the true partner of our government in the education of our students and for all these we say 'thank you.' Dear parents, be reminded that children become students of G.H.S. Limbe only after they have paid the registration fees. If they have not registered, their names can not be added to a class list and they will not have a report card. Registration time is in July and August for both old and new students. Please start planning now to pay your registration fees on time. G.H.S. Limbe has always enjoyed the support and collaboration of many sectors of our society. I very heartily thank the local Administrative Authorities both at the Divisional and Sub-Divisional level for their moral support in the execution of our duties. We request Chief Motande Maole as well as Mr. Mofema Nathaniel to convey our deep gratitude and appreciation to the School Management Board and P.T.A. respectively for the enormous support we got from this two organs. G.H.S. Limbe will never be the "School of Reference" without the SMB and the P.T.A. We deeply appreciate the help we have enjoyed from the Limbe Urban Council, the C.D.C., the Botanic Garden and trust that the new Limbe I and II councils will also lend us their support. Apart from these mentioned, the greatest support this year came from SO.NA.RA that gave us chemicals worth a lot of money. We are deeply grateful to SO.NA.RA's General Manager, Mr. Charles Metouck for his magnanimity and trust that SO.NA.RA will always be our partner in training our budding scientists. Ladies and gentlemen, dear colleagues, in registering our thanks we wish to very specially thank the Provincial Delegate, Mr. Ngundu Francis, and a seasoned Educationist who is always available for consultation and to lend support. Thank you sir for making us feel very special all the time. Our thanks also go to our Divisional Delegate, Mr. Njoh Albert Ndumbe who stops by all the time to see how we are getting on. As usual, my dear parents, colleagues and students, you have heard many times over that you must steer clear of those habits that expose you to HIV infection. You have received in several ways all the training and information that enablers you to stay free from this dreadful disease. Let us join our charming first lady and the Circle of Friends of Cameroon (CERAC) as well as the African Synergy of Mme Chantal Biya, to bar HIV/AIDS from our beautiful city Limbe and our dear fatherland Cameroon. I cannot end this speech without commending the staff here in G.H.S. Limbe for the work they do in spite of the many challenges they face. I pay tribute to these men and women who come in the rain or sun to fulfill their pledge to serve the nation. I wish to thank the school and class prefects for helping to maintain discipline as well as coping with their school work. My special thanks go to the Department of Sports and Physical Education co-ordinated by Jibour Karing Masiana. Although she was alone but with help from Mrs. Ngale Patience and Sama Ndifor, our school won in may sporting disciplines. Special thanks also go to the members of the Discipline Department who have had to cope with a particularly challenging year as far as discipline was concerned. It won't be fair if I did not thank the boys in the Computer laboratory, the Risograph room, and the work master of G.H.S. Limbe for all the extra efforts in making our school a special place. How could I ever forget our formidable school choir and school band for making us proud. My special thanks also go to all the athletes, the boys and girls who made up the teams for sports, dance groups and the debate club. You all brought honour to G.H.S. Limbe and I am extremely grateful to you all. Finally my dear graduating students let me in my personal name and on behalf of your parents and the entire community of G.H.S. Limbe wish you success in the forthcoming G.C.E. examinations. Good luck to you our dear grandaunds, and congratulations to our prize laureates. May the Almighty God crown your hard work with success? I wish you all a happy celebration. LONG LIVE G.H.S. LIMBE – THE SCHOOL OF REFERENCE. LONG LIVE THE MINISTRY OF SECONDARY EDUCATION LONG LIVE THE REPUBLIC OF CAMEROON AND HER ILLUSTRIOUS SON PRESIDENT PAUL BIYA. Thank you for your kind attention
