A SPEECH PRESENTED BY THE OUTGOING SENIOR PREFECT LEADER OF

PRIZE AWARD CEREMONY ON FRIDAY THE
30TH OF MAY, 2008.
The Senior Divisional
Officer for Fako,
The Divisional Officer for
Limbe Central,
The Lord Mayor of Limbe I,
II & III Councils,
The Provincial Delegate of
Secondary Education,
The Divisional Delegate of
Secondary Education,
The Principals,
The Chairman of the S.M.B
and the P.T.A President,
All Protocol: Respected,
The Staff and Students,
Ladies and Gentlemen.
It is with profound gratitude that we
the outgoing students of Form five and Upper sixth Honoured today, acknowledge your
presence and love. When we started five and seven years ago respectively, we
thought it will be for ever. Little did we realize that the magic of time and
efforts of our teachers let the days go by unnoticed, and today, we are living
witnesses of another phase in our lives?
As the senior prefect of the graduating
class ,I must say all had not been smooth with us .We have gone through
laborious moments ,battling with school rules and regulations we did not in
anyway relent our efforts and so were able to break through.
We the
laureates have always had a dream: to break through in flying colours and we
shall stop at nothing to see the dream come true. The poor mock results not
withstanding, we solemnly promise that this batch we leave behind as legacy,
success that will be resounded beyond the realms of the nation.
Ladies
and gentlemen, we will like to use this opportunity to say thank you to our
parents, the food sellers and most especially the almighty God for making us
part of this great academic institution “The School of Reference”.
Teaching and learning go with a lot of activities. We know we have
surely hurt you in the process especially at this time when youths aspire to
greatness even blindly. We have on many occasions failed to meet your
expectations .Do bear with us and accept our apologies. We ask you to excuse
our behavior as youthful exubearance. We wish to acknowledge that the shoulders
can never grow above the head. Let us stand up like one person to achieve our
success. I therefore on behalf of the student I represent, promise that we will
change our negative attitudes and give you the support you need to carry on this academic process. We ask
you to continue to take care of our junior ones. Above all, we say thank you
for your moral and financial support.
Ladies
and gentlemen, one way to show someone you passed by is to leave footprints. To
this effect, being the batch with the shortest regime, we had some marvelous
achievements. The batch won trophies in many extracurricular activities such as
in basketball, football, school debates and traditional dances. We witness the
presence of some members of Government
High School ex-students association of the University of Buea branch who gave
some orientations to students of the upper sixth form on choosing a career and
the requirements needed to get into various departments in that University. We
also say thank you to the government of Cameroon for providing funds to
continue the construction work on the science laboratory. We hope history will
hold that our batch was the last to go to down beach for practical
classes.Again, we hope the P.T.A will continue the construction of the
administrative block and more classrooms to meet the need of the ever growing
population of the school especially, now that we foresee five streams per
class. Dear Parents, we know we are asking for too many things but a famous
proverb goes thus “a mother cannot stop singing until the child stops crying”.
We are crying for a school bus for it is very necessary at this time. We found
it difficult last year to transport students to take part in sporting
activities; excursions and field trips without a standby bus. In like manner,
conveying students who fell sick to the hospital. I will also use this
opportunity to plead with you parents to ensure that your children feed well
before coming to school so as to enable them follow their lessons properly. We
want to thank you in advance because we know you have taken keen note and will
react in your normal positive manner to these request .Thank you.
On
behalf of the graduating classes, I extend my sympathy to our friends and
classmates who are not graduating with us today for one reason or the other. I
hope they will learn from this one act that insolence never pays. On a more
serious note, I employ my classmates to be of good conduct as we start the
writing exercise next week, for in order to achieve our goal we need to appear
in our correct school attire, be punctual and ensure that we are in possession
of all our writing materials for the examination .Dear friends, do not forget to
be at the right place, at the right time and doing the right thing. As we leave
this place today, we know the seeds of our leadership qualities have been sown here.
We promise to be good ambassadors of our Alma
matter and no matter what comes our way success will surely be ours.
Special
thanks go to our mentor, our counselor, our strong hold, our spiritual guide
and above all our mother “Mama Eyere Takor” for all the support. Words alone
cannot express our gratitude towards to your efforts in administering this
great institution. May the Almighty God bless you and your entire family. Ones
more ladies and gentlemen, you are welcome and at the same time goodbye.
Long live the
Graduating batch
Long live Government High School Limbe
Long live the
Ministry of Secondary Education
Long live the Republic of Cameroon.
